These decisions should be made with as much knowledge as possible about the health risks and potential benefits, in light of each person's genetic susceptibility, health history, habits and behavioral issues. Canyon Ranch advises that any personal concerns be discussed with a doctor.

Based on current research, Canyon Ranch’s position on alcohol is that moderate alcohol consumption may well help many people live longer, healthier lives, but that excessive drinking can lead to health problems. In addition, factors such as genetics or a family history of alcohol abuse mean that some individuals are better off avoiding alcohol completely.

Canyon Ranch destination resorts will continue to be alcohol-free environments. We do not disapprove of alcohol, and guests are free to bring it with them to consume in their rooms, if they wish. But our resorts are designed to be isolated environments, apart from the world, in which individuals can change their habits in just a few days. This “immersion” environment is designed to place people in a new context where they are moved to reflect on existing patterns and choices, and to drop, adjust and add new ones to their lives. We want to present all our resort guests with the healthiest possible choices, so they can experience how good healthy living makes them feel. They have more opportunity to do that if their perception is unclouded.

By contrast, at Canyon Ranch Living communities and hotels, the goal is to bring our lifestyle, programs and philosophy into everyday living, and alcohol in moderation will be part of that for many residents and guests. At Canyon Ranch hotels, the intent is to reduce the barriers to healthier choices often presented by traditional leisure and business travel, while still offering the choices of everyday life. Therefore, alcohol will be served in the Living communities, hotels, and at Canyon Ranch SpaClub day facility in Las Vegas. Guests may choose from organic, sustainable and/or biodynamic wine, beer and spirits, and cocktails made with wholesome, homemade mixers in an environment where the health benefits of moderate alcohol intake are recognized as an enjoyable complement to a meal and part of a healthy lifestyle.
